We resurface more than standard size tubs! What does your tub look like?

Like oval bathtubs, these luxurious bathtubs are the same length as any other standard tub, but they are wider — in this case, even wider than an oval bathtub. In fact, they are basically square bathtubs at five feet by five feet, although one corner of the square is rounded off. Once again though, it will cost significantly more to resurface a corner bathtub than an alcove bathtub, as there is considerably more square footage. However, if you’re going to go through the expense of having a corner bathtub, you probably appreciate comfort and luxury when bathing, and if you’re going to have a luxurious tub, it should look great, too.
Alcove bathtubs usually run about four to six feet long and 15 to 32 inches wide. An alcove is a space bounded by three walls, and similarly, an alcove tub is usually one up against the back wall, for example, with the long side walls on each side forming the other boundaries of the tub. This is a fairly common bathtub configuration. A standard alcove bathtub will usually be closer to five feet long. Four feet is fairly small and usually only found in very small bathrooms where only a shower is not sufficient, while a six-foot tub may be too large for many standard bathrooms.
These bathtubs, which can go anywhere if you’ve got the room for them, can be anywhere from a little over four feet to as much as six feet in length, and from 24 inches to 32 inches in width. When thinking about standard tub resurfacing, you will also want to consider the height of the tub, which is usually around 20 inches, except for free-standing bathtubs which may run four to 10 inches taller.
A Jacuzzi, or whirlpool tub, usually fits in between the alcove and oval when it comes to width, at about 32 inches. It contains jets that create a soothing water feature in any bathroom. When resurfaced the jets and fixtures are protected by our skilled technicians.

8 Layers Above the Competition

Bathtub refinishing is a great choice to transform the look of your existing tub. Our high gloss, durable coating will renew your outdated surface in a matter of hours, so you can use your tub the very next day. We also excel at rusted tub repair in Maryland, which involves resurfacing cast iron or pressed steel enamel tubs. When cast iron or steel bathtubs are made, manufacturers coat them with a porcelain veneer that, after time, erodes to expose the original casting. When water and steel or iron interact regularly, rust inevitably forms.

Not only is rust unattractive and hard to remove, it can be hazardous to your health, exposing you to abnormally high lead levels. Our bathtub refinishing process in Maryland involves cleaning the surface of mineral deposits, soap scum, and rust by using the latest industrial cleaners and power sanders. An industry-strength waterproof filler is then applied to seal the surface and prevent water from infiltrating affected areas. Finally, our technicians coat your bathtub with a protective, catalyzed primer that sets within minutes.

Chances are, yes! Rust mostly occurs around the drain and overflow plate which can be repaired. While we cannot fully inhibit the rust from forming once it has started our process can slow it down. Our trained technicians use a combination of acid etch and elbow grease to remove the affected metal. The acid etch eats away at the rust which leaves the bare metal exposed and ready for the new surface, and the technician sands away and rust that was not eliminated by the acid etch. Oxidation can severely damage your tub but as long as the structural integrity of the tub is not compromised it can usually be repaired during the tub resurface.

It is important to keep in mind that resurfacing is a cosmetic fix, meaning that some tubs just cannot be repaired. In most cases these are fiberglass tubs or shower pans. Overtime that fiberglass becomes more brittle and flexes and eventually cracks due to pressure from use, structural, or otherwise. If the cracks leak then the tub or shower pan will most likely need replacing. While resurfacing can mask the appearance of the cracks it cannot prevent their eventual return.

Resurfacing, refinishing, and reglazing are essentially all the same thing. It is the act of applying a new surface to a bathroom of kitchen surface to change the color or make it look like new. This option allows the homeowner to revamp their original fixture avoiding a costly replacement.

Our bathtub resurfacing warranty is for 2 years; however, if the surface is properly cared for than the surface could last well over 10 years.

Watch How It’s Done!

Let us take the guess work out of our tub resurfacing service with this behind-the-scenes look at our process; from prepping to application of the coating.  This homeowner in Frederick, Maryland had a tub that was in good shape, except the existing coating was starting chip away exposing the original avocado green tub underneath.  A couple of hours with our team and now this standard size tub is as good as new!
